Salute To Seniors: James Jackson (Chester)


Today we salute James Jackson of Chester.

The Alcorn State recruit finished up a strong career, competing in the hurdles. Jackson was a three-time indoor state qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles. His best finish came this past winter, where he took fourth in the state, running a PR of 8.08. He was also a 2017 state qualifier in the 300-meter hurdles. He ran PRs of 14.43 in the 110-meter hurdles and 39.64 in the 300-meter hurdles at the 2018 PA Track Classic.

He answered some questions for PennTrackXC, reflecting on his career.

What was your most memorable race/competition?

My most memorable race was when I raced Taraje Whitfield at the Track Classic in both hurdles and placed 2nd in both after a tough battle. I had a huge PR in both races.

Where did you face your biggest competition?

I faced my biggest competition when I raced Kyle Garland and Ayden Owens in the 60mJ at the 2017 PA indoor state championships

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?

When I placed 4th in the 60mh at the 2018 Pa indoor state championships, I felt confident through the rounds and I got it done.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?

My attitude, some of my decisions and I would have worked harder and never stopped.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My father passing , losing a brother and it all happening while running.


What will you miss the most?





Competing, winning, preparing for big meets, receiving medals, Everything.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes? 





Always listen to your coaches because they know best. Keep God first and simply train hard.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?

They gave me confidence to go up against anybody. Coach J always said they get dressed in the morning just like you do . They train just like you do, you can beat them.

What are your post-high school plans? 

To attend Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi. Majoring in Criminal Justice.
