NDSU Women to Host Bison Open in Final Tune-up Before League Championships

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State women's track and field team hosts the Bison Open Feb. 12-13 for the team's final competition prior to hosting the Summit League Championships at the end of the month. Action starts with the pentathlon at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Bison Sports Arena.  The meet continues Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with the long jump.

 

Brost posts NCAA provisional mark, Carlson wins long jump at Husker Invitational

Sophomore Leslie Brost became the first Bison to reach an NCAA provisional mark after clearing 13-5 1/4 in the pole vault at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational last weekend.  Junior Whitney Carlson was the only Bison to win an event, capturing the long jump with a mark of 19-8.  The 4x400 relay team of Devon Wentz, Brittany Page, Deborah John and Carlson finished third in the special race in 3:46.98, ranking eighth all-time at NDSU.  Carlson was fourth in the 200 meter final in 24.46, which is second all-time.  She also placed fifth in the 60 meter hurdle final in 8.59.  In the 3,000 meters, freshman Lauren Rice was the runner-up in a time of 10:02.50, ranking 10th on the NDSU all-time performance charts.  Sophomore Brittany Page won the 200 meter consolation final in 25.10.  Her personal best is seventh all-time for the Bison.

 

Brost ranked 14th in pole vault by USTFCCCA

Sophomore Leslie Brost is tied for 14th in the pole vault in the latest edition of the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) event rankings. The rankings include marks from the the 2009 season  and the current season.  Brost's best mark of 13-9 1/4 is  from the 2009 Last Chance Qualifier.  Her 2010 best is 13-5 1/4 and is ranked 20th based on this years results alone.

Bison lead Summit League in seven events

NDSU leads the league in seven of 17 events this season.  Junior Whitney Carlson leads four events: the 60 meter hurdles in 8.61, the 200 meters in 24.46, the long jump in 19-10 1/4 and the pentathlon with 3,697 points.  Freshman Deborah John leads the 60 meters with a time of 7.65, while junior Christine Bruins leads the 800 meters in 2:12.21.  Redshirt freshman Toni Tollefson holds the top spot in the high jump with a mark of 5-8 3/4.

NDSU to host Summit League Championships

North Dakota State will play host to the 2010 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The championships will begin Sunday, Feb. 28 and conclude Monday, March1.  The Bison women are aiming for their third straight Summit League indoor crown.
