Leutz, Rud 1-2 After First Day of Decathlon at Florida State Relays

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Dakota State sophomore Weston Leutz leads the decathlon with 3,813 points after the first day of action at the Florida State Relays.  Junior Ted Rud is in second with 3,747 points.

Leutz placed first in three of the five events.  He won the 100 meters in a time of 10.99.  He took first in the high jump with a mark of 6-6 3/4 and won the 400 in 50.74.  Leutz was second in the long jump with a mark of 22-3 1/2 and also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 39-1 3/4.

Rud won both the long jump and the shot put.  He claimed the long jump by over a foot with a leap of 23-8.  His winning throw in the shot put was 40-4.  Rud was second in the high jump, clearing 6-5 1/2 and third in both the 100 meters (11.57) and the 400 meters (51.55).

The decathlon concludes Friday, March 26 with the final five events.
