NDSU Men's Track and Field Heads to California

FARGO, N.D. ? The North Dakota State men's track and field team will head to California this weekend for three competitions. Events open with the Mt. SAC Relays/Cal Invitational decathlon April 14-15 held at Asuza Pacific University.  The Mt. SAC Relays continue April 15-17 in Walnut, Calif.  Some team members will also compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational April 15-16, also at Asuza Pacific, and others will compete at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State April 16-17.

Johnson sets school record in hammer at Bison Open

Senior Scott Johnson won the hammer throw with a school record toss of 193 feet 4 inches at the Bison Open on April 9.  Johnson's throw broke the 2005 record of 192-5 set by John Christensen.  Sophomore Kevin Jackson won both the 100 meters and the 200 meters.  Jackson won the 200 meters with a personal best time of 21.34, which is seventh on the NDSU all-time performance charts.  His 100 meter time was 10.89.  Overall, the Bison claimed nine titles at the their only home meet of the outdoor season.

 

Bison lead league in eight events

Junior Ted Rud holds the top spot in the Summit League in the long jump with a mark of 23-8 and the decathlon with 7,261 points.  Sophomore Kevin Jackson leads the 200 in 21.34 and junior Eric Stroh is tops in the 800 with a time of 1:51.13.  Sophomore Travis Fitzke is first in the 3,000 meters in 8:30.69, while fellow sophomore Weston Leutz leads the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.44.  The 4x100 relay team of Doug Scott, Jackson, Jason Duchscherer and Lee Dhein is first with a time of 41.84.  Senior Scott Johnson's record throw of 193-4 in the hammer leads the league as well.  Oral Roberts is second with five league leading marks.

 

Rud, Leutz in national top 10

Junior Ted Rud is ranked ninth and sophomore Weston Leutz is ranked tenth nationally in the decathlon according to the Track and Field Results Reporting System.  Rud scored 7,261 points at the Florida State Relays and Leutz tallied 7,190 points at the same event.
