Bison Women Win Hurdles, 4x400 Relay Saturday at Howard Wood Dakota Relays

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--The North Dakota State women's track and field team won three event titles and had four runners-up at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on Saturday, May 1, at Howard Wood Field.

Whitney Carlson won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14 seconds flat, Devon Wentz won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 1.58 seconds, and the NDSU 1,600-meter relay team won with a time of 3:49.80.

Carlson's preliminary qualifying time of 13.83 in the 100 hurdles broke the meet record of 13.89 she set in 2009.

NDSU's Brittany Gigstead was second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:35.60, which ranks ninth on the all-time performance list at NDSU.

Emily Stalpes was second in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches, Ashley Tingelstad was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.86 seconds improving her fourth all-time mark, and Heather Zander was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.34 seconds.

Wentz added a third-place finish in the 100-hurdles with a time of 14.58 seconds, and Brittany Page finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.90 seconds to move into fifth place on the NDSU all-time chart.

North Dakota State will compete in the Summit League outdoor track and field championships May 13-15 at the University of Toledo.
