Carlson Named All-American After NCAA Long Jump Performance

EUGENE, Ore. ? North Dakota State junior Whitney Carlson earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-America honors after finishing 11th in the long jump at the NCAA Championships with a mark of 20 feet 3 ¾ inches.

The school's third Division I All-America selection, Carlson joins senior Heather Zander as NDSU All-America honorees at this year's NCAA Championships.  Zander picked up the honor after finishing ninth in the heptathlon.  It is the first year that NDSU has had two selections.  In 2009, Laura Hermanson became the first NDSU athlete to be named a Division I All-American after a runner-up finish in the 800 meters.

The top eight (individuals and relays) in each event earned USTFCCCA All-America status. Plus, the top eight finishers in individual events that are American citizens also earned USTFCCCA All-America status.
