NDSU Lands 99 Student-Athletes on Summit League Commissioner's List

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League announced its 2009-10 Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence with a total of 978 student-athletes from all 19 league-sponsored sports honored for their work in the classroom.  North Dakota State had 99 athletes in 12 sports make the list.

 

South Dakota State claimed The Summit League's Institutional Academic Achievement Award with a league-best 69 percent of its list-eligible student-athletes recognized, edging North Dakota State, who had 68 percent honored. IPFW and Southern Utah came in third with 63 percent while Oakland and Western Illinois tied for fifth at 60 percent.

 

The Summit League also recognized Team Academic Achievement Awards in each sport based on percentage of list-eligible student-athletes on the Commissioner's List. Oakland had a league-best four teams claim individual sport honors.

Of the 978 student-athletes honored, 26 maintain perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point averages.

 

In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, he/she must carry a 3.00 or better cumulative GPA, achieve sophomore academic standing at the institution, have used a year of eligibility and be on the squad list in the sport in which he/she is nominated. Transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates must have completed one academic year at the nominating institution. True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.
