NDSU Women Travel to Indiana for Summit League Championships

FARGO, N.D. ? The North Dakota State women's cross country team will be aiming for its first Summit League title after finishing second at last year's league championships.  The 2010 championship will be held at Northview Christian Church in Carmel, Ind. on Saturday, Oct. 30.  The six-kilometer race will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern.

Senior Amy Jo Thorne leads the squad and is coming off a first place finish at the Tori Neubauer Invitational on Oct. 16.  She also won the NDSU Open to kick off the season.  Freshman Heidi Peterson has emerged as a top runner for the Bison as well.  Peterson was the team's top finisher at both the Wisconsin adidas Invitational and the Oz Memorial Run.  Thorne and Peterson have posted the top two 6k times in the Summit League this fall, while freshman Maddie McClellan has the sixth-best time.

At the 2009 championships, the Bison finished second behind Southern Utah. It was NDSU's best-ever finish at the league championships.  Thorne is the top returning athlete for NDSU after placing 18th last year.  Senior Brittany Schanandore, junior Jordan Krahn and senior Christine Schmaltz also placed in the top 30.
