NDSU Men Go For Fourth Consecutive Summit League Indoor Championship

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State men's track and field team will aim for its fourth straight league title this weekend as the team hosts the 2011 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships Presented by American Airlines Feb. 27-28 at the Bison Sports Arena.  The Bison look to become the only team in league history to win four indoor titles in a row.  On Sunday, Feb. 27, the men's heptathlon begins at 9:45 a.m.  Field events and running events start at 3 p.m.  On Monday, Feb. 28, the final three events of the heptathlon conclude at 10 a.m.  Field events kick off at noon, while running events begin at 1 p.m.

Four champs return for NDSU

The Bison have all four defending Summit League champions back this season.  2010 Summit League Field MVP Ted Rud will aim for his second straight heptathlon title, while Kevin Jackson will look to repeat in the 200 meters.  Eric Stroh will defend his 800 meters title, while Jeramy Geditz will be gunning for his fourth straight high jump title.

 

NDSU tops the league in four events

The North Dakota State men lead the Summit League in four events.  Freshman Donte Smart holds the top spot in the 60 meters, while senior Eric Stroh is No. 1 in the 800 meters.  Junior Travis Fitzke leads the mile and sophomore Matt Tetzlaff is first in the 60 meter hurdles.

 

Rud, Lillejord ranked nationally in the heptathlon

Senior Ted Rud is ranked No. 35 in the country in the heptathlon after recording a score of 5,331 points at the Bison Open on Feb. 5.  He is second in the Summit League.  Andy Lillejord is No. 42 with 5,254 points, a mark he recorded at the Holiday Invitational.  Lillejord's score is third in the Summit League.

 

Fitzke leads Bison at Iowa State Classic

Junior Travis Fitzke was one of three Bison to record a school all-time top 10 mark at the Iowa State Classic Feb. 12.  Fitzke's time of 4:06.94 in the mile is fourth all-time.  In the 800 meters, Eric Stroh posted a personal best time of 1:51.46, which is sixth in school history.  In the same event, Moses Heppner finished in 1:52.45, which is tied for ninth all-time.
