ELMHURST, Ill. ? Twelve members of the North Dakota State men's track and field team were named to the All-Summit League team as announced today by the league office. The top three athletes in each event prior to the league championships earned the award.
Four Bison lead their respective events. Freshman Donte Smart is first in the 60 meters with a time of 6.83, while sophomore Matt Tetzlaff leads the 60 meter hurdles in 7.99. Senior Eric Stroh tops the 800 meters in 1:51.46 and junior Travis Fitzke is first in the mile with a time of 4:06.94.
Fitzke is also second in the 3,000 meters. Junior Kevin Jackson picked up all-league honors in three events as he is second in the 60 meters and 200 meters and third in the 60 meter hurdles. Junior Jason Duchscherer is ranked second in the 400 meters, while sophomore Moses Heppner is third in the 800 meters. Junior Tyler Leverington is No. 3 in the mile while junior Weston Leutz is second in the 60 hurdles. Sophomore Jesse Morrow holds the second spot in the pole vault. In the heptathlon, Ted Rud is second and Andy Lillejord is third. Smart, Duchscherer, Stroh and Tetzlaff also earned all-league honors as part of the third place 4x400 relay team.
The Bison will open their title defense Sunday, Feb. 27 as they play host to the Summit League Championships at the Bison Sports Arena. Heptathlon action begins at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, while the running and field events start at 3 p.m. On Monday, Feb. 28, the heptathlon concludes at 10 a.m., while field events begin at noon. Running events begin at 1 p.m.
