High School Distance Challenge Saturday June 8th in KC Metro
Joined: Aug 2007
There will be a unique opportunity for high school distance runners from around the US and especially the Midwest to run a PR in either the 800, mile or 2 mile while their fitness level is still very high from the current track season. This distance only meet with pacers (ala the European Circuit) will be held at Blue Springs South HS in Kansas City, MO on Saturday evening, June 8th. All races will be paced on current ability level for boys and girls divisions. There will be 5 separate mile races and 5 separate 2 mile races per gender and one 800 meter race per gender. There will also be a middle school mile for each gender. The idea is to help everyone run fast! Below is a link to the website, contact info and an email that was sent out to a variety of coaches from around the US. Since we knew we didn't have everyone's e-mail we would like to offer you and your athletes a chance to join us as well. www.hsdistancechallenge.org/ For more info or for questions please contact us at: Phone Number: (913) 489-9821 E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coach: We are hosting a meet called the High School Distance Challenge here in Kansas City on June 8, 2013. This is two weeks after the Missouri, Kansas and Illinois state meets and three weeks after the Nebraska, Iowa and Colorado state meets. Runners from all over the US and in particular the Midwest are invited to join us. We want to give high school distance runners (both boys and girls) the opportunity to break their PR in either the 2 mile, 1 mile or 800. For example, we will have races in the 2 mile for the guys to break 10:00, 9:45, 9:30, 9:15 and 9:00. The girls will be going after times under 11:30, 11:15, 11:00, 10:45 and 10:30 for their 2 mile event. They will get an FAT time at the 3000, 3200 and 2 mile. Most high school races after the season are set up for just the best HS runners to compete. Each race except the 800 will have a pacer ala the European Circuit to give everyone the best opportunity to set a new PR. We believe that the best way to get more high school runners to the next level is to give those next tier runners the opportunity to break through as well. This will give runners the opportunity to run fresh in one race in a setting that allows them to run to their full potential. Most high school runners are running multiple races for the last month of the season and never get the opportunity to run fresh when they are really fit. This will give them the opportunity to do so. The first question all college coaches want to know in the recruiting process is; "What are your PR's on the track?" Cross country doesn't mean as much when it comes to college athletic scholarships for a variety of reasons. We will be running the meet in the late evening with the sole intent of running fast. Each racer will have a goal time and each one that achieves or exceeds that goal will get an award. Please visit our website and encourage others to join us by passing this info on to all coaches, athletes and parents that might be interested. We look forward to seeing you and your athlete(s) have the opportunity to "Break Through Barriers" at the High School Distance Challenge.
