Carlson Wins Bison Holiday Pentathlon

FARGO, N.D. ? North Dakota State junior Whitney Carlson and senior Heather Zander finished first and second, respectively, in the Bison Holiday Pentathlon this weekend.

Carlson finished with 3,568 points while Zander had 3,529 points.  Freshman Emily Stalpes came in fifth place with 2,801 points.

Carlson won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.57 seconds and also won the long jump (19-2 ½ feet) and the 800 meters (2:32.24).   She finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-9 ¾ and second in the shot put with a mark of 31-9 ½.

Zander came out on top in the shot put, throwing 33-3 3/4 feet.  In the 60 meter hurdles, she finished second in a time of 8.84, tying her personal best.  She was second in the long jump with a mark of 18-5 ¼ and second in the 800 with a time of 2:32.97.

The Bison continue action after winter break by hosting the NDSU Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 17 at the Bison Sports Arena.
