Johnson Sets School Record in the Weight Throw at Bill Bergan Invitational

AMES, Iowa - North Dakota State senior Scott Johnson set a school record in the weight throw to lead the Bison at the Bill Bergan Invitational Saturday.  The Bison came in sixth in the competition that included three ranked teams: No. 5 Nebraska, No. 12 Minnesota and No. 23 Kansas State.  The top six finishers in each event earned points for their respective teams. 

Johnson's throw of 60 feet 6 3/4 inches was good for sixth place in the weight throw.  His mark broke teammate Logan Hollenkamp's 2009 record by five inches.

Sophomore Weston Leutz was the second place finisher in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 7.98, ranking fifth all-time at NDSU. 

In the 800 meters, junior Eric Stroh ran a personal best time of 1:52.08 to place sixth.  His time ranks seventh on the all-time performance charts.

Junior Jeramy Geditz finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6-8 1/4.  Senior Cody Gronvold tied for fifth in the pole vault, tying his personal best mark of 16-0 3/4.  In the long jump, junior Doug Scott was sixth with a mark of 22-3 1/2.

In the triple jump, two Bison finished in the top six.  Junior Lee Kersting was fourth with a leap of 46-0 1/2, while junior Ted Rud was sixth with a mark of 45-3 1/2.

The Bison will travel to Lincoln, Neb. for the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6.
