John Wins 60 Meters to Lead Bison at Bill Bergan Invitational

AMES, Iowa - The North Dakota State women's track and field team finished fourth at the Bill Bergan Classic on Saturday, coming from behind in the last two events to bypass Missouri.  The Bison sprinters led the way in the six-team competition that included No. 12 Nebraska.  The top six finishers in each event scored points for their respective teams.

Freshman Deborah John won the 60 meter dash in 7.65.  Her time is second all-time at NDSU by one hundredth of a second. 

Sophomore Brittany Page posted two top six finishes in the 60 meters and the 200 meters.  Her time of 7.76 in the 60 meter preliminaries is tied for seventh all-time at NDSU.  She finished fourth in the final.  In the 200 meters, Page came in third in a time of 25.25, ranking ninth all-time.

Freshman Ashley Tingelstad placed fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 25.49, just missing out on the NDSU all-time top ten.

In the 60 meter hurdles, juniors Whitney Carlson and Devon Wentz finished fourth and fifth, respectively.  Carlson's time was 8.75 and Wentz posted a time of 8.99 in the final.

Junior Christine Bruins came in fourth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:12.21, while Carlson was fourth in the 400 meters in 56.58.  The 4x400 relay team of Wentz, Bruins, Tingelstad and Amy Bestland finished fourth in 3:54.62.

Sophomore Leslie Brost cleared a season-best height of 12-9 1/2 in the pole vault to finish second.  Redshirt freshman Toni Tollefson placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-8.

In the long jump, sophomore Kristen Killoran was fourth with a leap of 18-1 1/2, while senior Brittni Bruenjes came in fifth in 18-0 1/2.  The duo repeated the same finishes in the triple jump.  Killoran's fourth place mark was 39-2 1/2 and Bruenjes was fifth with a mark of 38-5.

The Bison next head to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, Feb. 6.
