Carlson Wins Long Jump, Brost Reaches NCAA Provisional Mark at Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. - North Dakota State junior Whitney Carlson claimed the long jump title and sophomore Leslie Brost reached an NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday night.

Carlson won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 8 inches, beating out Nebraska's Chantae McMillan by one inch.  Carlson also finished fifth in the 200 meter preliminaries in a time of 24.72.  Her time is ranked third all-time at NDSU.  She also qualified for the 60 meter hurdle final after placing fifth in the prelims with a time of 8.57.  Both the 200 and 60 hurdle finals will take place Saturday.

Brost cleared a season-best 13-5 1/4 to finish second in the pole vault.  She is the first Bison women's track and field athlete to reach an NCAA provisional mark this season.

Freshman Deborah John and sophomore Brittany Page just missed out on spots in the 60 meter final, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.

Action at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational continues Saturday at noon.
