NDSU Men's Track and Field Signs Four to National Letters of Intent

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State head men's track and field coach Don Larson announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

 

Joining the Bison will be Martin Joyce, a distance runner from Woodbury, Minn.; Nathan Mattson, a sprinter from Hawley, Minn.; Spencer Uetz, a distance runner from West Fargo, N.D.; and Nick Weis, a pole vaulter and sprinter out of Sauk Rapids, Minn.

 

Joyce is an all-state and all-conference honoree in both cross country and track out of Woodbury High School (Minn.).  In the fall, he was the Minnesota state runner-up in cross country.  He placed eighth in the 3,200 meters at both the 2008 and 2009 Minnesota state championships.  He also came in eighth in the 1,600 in 2009. 

 

Mattson is an all-state sprinter from Hawley High School (Minn.).  He finished third in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters at the 2009 Minnesota state championships.  In 2008, he was sixth in the 100 at the state championships.  Mattson is also an all-state football player.

 

Uetz is an all-state performer in both track and cross country at West Fargo H.S. (N.D.).  He placed third in the 1,600 meters and fifth in the 800 meters at the 2009 North Dakota state championships.  Uetz also helped West Fargo to a conference cross country title.

 

Weis is the Sauk Rapids-Rice High School school record holder in the pole vault.  An academic all-state performer, he tied for second in the pole vault at the Minnesota state championships in 2008 and placed 10th in 2009.  He also claimed the conference and section titles in the pole vault in 2009. 

 

NDSU will host the Bison Classic Feb. 12-13 at the Bison Sports Arena.
