Leutz Leads Heptathlon After First Day of Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State sophomore Weston Leutz holds the top spot in the Bison Open heptathlon with 3,041 points after four events.  Leutz won the 60 meters in 7.07 and came in second in the long jump, shot put and high jump.

Junior Ted Rud is currently second in the heptathlon with 2,979 points.  He won the long jump with a mark of 22-9 1/4 and the shot put with a throw of 42-2 3/4.  Redshirt freshman Ryan Jensen is fifth with 2,499 points.  The heptathlon concludes Saturday with the 60 meter hurdles, the pole vault and the 1,000 meters.

In the weight throw, senior Scott Johnson placed second with a mark of 58-7 1/4.  Three other Bison also placed in the top eight of the event.  Redshirt freshman Casey Orgon was sixth with a throw of 54-2 and junior Sam Soholt was seventh with a mark of 53-10 1/4.  Junior Logan Hollenkamp's throw of 53-6 1/2 was good for eighth.

The Bison Open continues Saturday, Feb. 13 at 2:30 p.m. with the long jump.  Other field events start at 3 p.m. and the running events begin at 3:30 p.m.
