Carlson Nabs Third Summit League Athlete of the Week Honor

ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State junior Whitney Carlson was named the Summit League Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week after notching two NCAA provisional marks and two school records at the Bison Open this weekend.

Carlson set an NDSU record in the pentathlon with an NCAA provisional score of 3,810 points.  She claimed first in three of the five events.  Her pentathlon score is ranked 17th nationally this season.

The Buchanan, N.D. native also reached an NCAA provisional mark in the long jump with a leap of 20-4 1/2.  Her jump breaks a 2003 NDSU record by three and a half inches.  Carlson's mark is tied for 20th nationally.

She leads the Summit League in the 200 meters, the long jump, pentathlon and 60 meter hurdles and has been named the league athlete of the week three times this season.
