NDSU Men Win Third Straight Summit League Indoor Championship

FARGO, N.D. ? The North Dakota State men's track and field team claimed its third consecutive Summit League Indoor Championship title on Monday, March 1.  The Bison finished with 171.5 points and won four titles.

Junior Ted Rud was named the Field Championships MVP after winning the heptathlon.  Rud also tied for eighth in the high jump and was seventh in the pole vault, long jump and triple jump.

Head coach Don Larson earned his second straight indoor Coach of Year award, as voted upon by the league coaches. 

Rud won the heptathlon with 5,205 points.  He won the long jump and the shot put and finished second in the pole vault and high jump.  Sophomore Weston Leutz was second with 5,088 points.  Senior Mike Hagen also contributed to the Bison points haul, finishing fifth with 4,585 points.  Redshirt freshman Ryan Jenson was sixth with 4,500 points.

Junior Jeramy Geditz won his third straight league high jump title with a mark of 6-10 ¼.  Leutz was fifth with a mark of 6-6 ¼, while Rud was eighth after clearing 6-4 ¼.

Sophomore Kevin Jackson won the 200 meters in 22.07, tying his personal best from last year's championships.  Jackson also finished third in the 60 meters in 6.90.

Junior Eric Stroh claimed the 800 meter title in 1:53.20, holding off freshman Moses Heppner in the final lap.  Heppner wound up second in 1:53.53.  Sophomore Travis Fitzke also placed in the top eight, finishing fifth in 1:55.61.  Fitzke also earned points in the mile, coming in fourth in 4:23.15.

In the 60 meter hurdles final, freshman Matt Tetzlaff posted a personal best time of 8.05 to finish second.  His time is ranked seventh all-time at NDSU.  Leutz came in third in 8.07.  Only three-hundredths of a second separated the top three finishers.

In the 400 meters, senior Jayce Miller ran a time of 50.49 to place fifth.

The 4x400 relay team of Miller, Stroh, Tetzlaff and Jackson finished second in 3:18.51.  In the final leg, Jackson was able to bypass runners from UMKC and Southern Utah to clinch the second place finish.

Redshirt freshman Casey Orgon was the only Bison to place in the top eight in the shot put, finishing eighth with a throw of 47-11.
