Bison Women Head South for Duke Invitational

FARGO, N.D. -  The North Dakota State women's track and field team will continue outdoor competition at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. April 2-3.  On Friday, April 2, field events begin at 11 a.m. Central and running events start at 12 p.m.   On Saturday, April 3, field events start at 8 a.m. CT and running events begin at 8:15 a.m. CT.

 

Zander named Summit League Athlete of the Week, finishes third in heptathlon

North Dakota State senior Heather Zander was named the Summit League Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after finishing third in the heptathlon at the Florida State Relays last week.  Zander tallied 5,134 points in the heptathlon, setting a new personal best and ranking fourth on the NDSU all-time performance charts.  She posted top three finishes in the 100 meter hurdles, 200 meters, long jump and javelin.  She leads the Summit League in the heptathlon and is currently ranked third in the country.  Freshman Emily Stalpes placed 12th in the heptathlon at the FSU Relays with 3,486 points.

 

Three Bison in national top 15

Three members of the women's track and field team have posted marks that rank in the top 15 nationally according to the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).  Senior Heather Zander has the third best heptathlon score in the country after tallying 5,134 points at the Florida State Relays.  Sophomore Leslie Brost is ninth in the pole vault with a mark of 13-7 3/4, while junior Whitney Carlson is 15th in the long jump with a leap of 19-9 1/2.

Sophomore Leslie Brost was named the Summit League women's outdoor track and field athlete of the week after winning the pole vault at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday, March 20.  She won the event with a mark of 13 feet 7 3/4 inches.  The Watertown, S.D. native leads the Summit League and is currently ranked third in the country in the pole vault.

 

Bison claim six titles at season-opening Baldy Castillo Invitational

NDSU kicked off the outdoor season by winning six titles at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday, March 20.  Sophomore Leslie Brost won the pole vault, clearing 13-7 ¾.  Senior Courtney Carpenter won the javelin with a personal best throw of 131-10, ranking 10th all-time at NDSU.  She was third in the preliminaries after a throw of 116-6, but took the title with her best throw on her last attempt in the finals.  Junior Amy Jo Reuter won the 3,000 meters in 10:07.42.  In the 400 meter hurdles, senior Devon Wentz came in first in 1:02.96.  In her first career outdoor meet, freshman Toni Tollefson won the high jump with a mark of 5-7.  In the long jump, junior Whitney Carlson won the meet title after leaping 19-9 ½ on her second attempt.
