NDSU Men's Track and Field Heads to Howard Wood Dakota Relays

FARGO, N.D. ? The North Dakota State men's track and field team will compete in the 86th Howard Wood Dakota Relays Friday, April 30-Saturday, May 1 in Sioux Falls, S.D.  Friday's action starts with the hammer throw at 2 p.m.  The 4x100 relay kicks off track events at 3:35 p.m.  On Saturday, field events begin with the long jump at 10 a.m. and track events start at 9:30 a.m. with the 110 meter hurdles.

 

Three relays crack all-time top 10 at Drake

The North Dakota State 4x800 relay team of junior Eric Stroh, freshman Moses Heppner, redshirt freshman Daniel Merritt and sophomore Travis Fitzke finished ninth in 7:30.24.  The time ranks third on the school's all-time performance charts.  The distance medley relay team of junior Eric Stroh, sophomore Kevin Jackson, freshman Moses Heppner and sophomore Travis Fitzke placed 11th in a time of 9:56.35, which is fourth in NDSU history.  In the sprint medley relay, sophomore Jason Duchscherer, freshman Lee Dhein, sophomore Weston Leutz and redshirt freshman Dan Merrit posted a time of 3:27.64, which is good for eighth all-time.  NDSU also competed in the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdles relay.  The team of Jackson, freshman Matt Tetzlaff, junior Ted Rud and Leutz finished second in 59.78.

 

Bison lead seven events in Summit League

Sophomore Weston Leutz leads both the 110 hurdles (14.21) and the decathlon (7,290) in the Summit League.  Junior Eric Stroh holds top spot in the 800 with a time of 1:51.13 and senior Scott Johnson is No. 1 in the hammer with a mark of 193-4.  Sophomore Travis Fitzke is first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:30.69.  NDSU also leads the 4x100 relay with a time of 41.84 and the distance medley relay with a time of 9:56.35.

 

Leutz, Rud in national top 20

Sophomore Weston Leutz is ranked No. 16 in the decathlon with 7,290 points according to the Track and Field Results Reporting System.  Junior Ted Rud is also ranked in the decathlon, coming in at No. 20 with 7,261 points.
