Johnson Finishes Second in Hammer at Summit League Championships

TOLEDO, Ohio ? North Dakota State senior Scott Johnson posted two top eight finishes to lead the Bison on the first day of action at the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Johnson was second in the hammer with a throw was 187 feet.  He placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 171-7.

 

After three scored events, NDSU is in second place with 26 points.  Southern Utah is in first with 28 points.

 

The Bison also claimed third through fifth in the hammer.  Junior Logan Hollenkamp was third with a personal best mark of 183-0.  Senior Sam Soholt was fourth with a throw of 174-10 while redshirt freshman Casey Orgon was fifth after a throw of 173-9.

 

Sophomore Weston Leutz leads the decathlon with 3,670 points after the first five events.  He took first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.26.  Leutz tied for second in the high jump after clearing 6-3 ½ and was third in the long jump (21-10 ¾), shot put (40-1 ¼) and 400 meters (50.77).

 

Freshman Andy Lillejord is currently third in the decathlon with 3,411 points and sophomore Ryan Jenson is close behind in fourth with 3,405 points.  Senior Mike Hagen rounds out the Bison contingent and sits in fifth place with 3,206 points.

 

The decathlon concludes Friday, May 14 beginning at 10 a.m. Central.  Field events start at 2 p.m. while running events begin at 3:30 p.m.
