NDSU Men Capture Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Title

TOLEDO, Ohio - The North Dakota State men's track and field team won its second Summit League Outdoor Championship title after amassing 186 points.    The Bison also won the outdoor title in 2008.  Junior Eric Stroh was the lone event winner on the final day of competition after taking first in the 800 meters.

Head coach Don Larson was named Coach of the Year in a vote of all the league's coaches.  UMKC's Anthony Boyer was named Track MVP and Southern Utah's Carlos Valle was tabbed as the Field MVP.  Southern Utah's Hayden Hawkes picked up the Newcomer of the Year award.

Stroh won the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.75.  Freshman Moses Heppner also earned points after finishing fifth in 1:52.95.

Sophomore Kevin Jackson notched runner-up finishes in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters.  His 100 meter time was 10.63 and his 200 meter time was 21.75.  Freshman Lee Dhein also ran the 100 meter final and came in seventh in 11.16.

Freshman Matt Tetzlaff posted third place finishes in both hurdle events.  In the 110 meter hurdles, he posted a time of 14.57 and in the 400 hurdles, his time was 53.50.  Jackson also ran the 110 meter hurdles and finished fourth in 14.72.  Sophomore Weston Leutz was seventh with a time of 15.13.

In the 400 meter final, sophomore Jason Duchscherer was fourth in 48.73 while redshirt freshman Andrew Balzer placed sixth in 49.38.

Junior Jake Henderson picked up a point for the Bison after coming in eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:05.95.  The 4x400 relay tallied four points after running a time of 3:16.56 to finish fifth.

In the pole vault, the Bison took fifth through eighth place.  Freshman Andy Lillejord led the way, clearing 15 feet 7 inches to finish fifth.  Sophomore Nolan Berg was sixth with a mark of 15-1 and fellow sophomore Joe Bredahl was seventh after clearing 15-1.  Redshirt freshman Jesse Morrow rounded out the Bison contingent after clearing 14-7 1/4 for eighth place.

Junior Lee Kersting was the only Bison in the triple jump and he finished fifth with a mark of 47-7.

 

Junior Sam Soholt led the team in the discus with a third place throw of 157-3.  Senior Scott Johnson was fourth with a mark of 155-9.  Johnson tallied points in three of the four throwing events.
