Three NDSU Men Set to Compete at NCAA Preliminary Round Beginning Thursday

FARGO, N.D. ? Three members of the North Dakota State men's track and field team will compete at the West Region NCAA Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas May 27-29.  In both the East and West regions, the top 48 athletes in each event made the preliminary round and the top 12 will advance to the national semifinals and finals in Eugene, Ore. June 9-12.

Sophomore Kevin Jackson will compete in both the 200 meters and the 400 meters.  He is 44th in the 400 meters with a time of 47.41 and 47th in the 200 meters with a time of 21.34.  Senior Scott Johnson and junior Logan Hollenkamp will both compete in the hammer throw.  Johnson is 32nd with a school record mark of 193 feet 4 inches, while Hollenkamp is 48th after a throw of 184-8.

 

2010 West Region NCAA Preliminary Round Schedule (All times Central)

Thursday, May 27 - 400 meters first round (Jackson), 6:30 p.m.

Friday, May 28 - Hammer throw qualifying (Johnson, Hollenkamp), 3 p.m.

      400 meters quarterfinal, 5:30 p.m.

      200 meters first round (Jackson), 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 29 - 200 meters quarterfinal, 7:35 p.m.

Bison win Summit League title

North Dakota State returned to the top of the Summit League, winning the 2010 outdoor title after finishing second in 2009.  Junior Eric Stroh won the 800 meters in a time of 1:51.75, while the 4x100 relay team took first in 41.36.  Sophomore Weston Leutz captured the decathlon title with 6,807 points.  Head coach Don Larson was voted Coach of the Year in a vote of all the league's coaches.  NDSU also won the indoor title.
