FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State women's track and field team will have 10 athletes competing at the West Region NCAA Preliminary Round Thursday, May 27 through Saturday, May 29. In both the East and West regions, the top 48 athletes in each event made the preliminary round and the top 12 will advance to the national semifinals and finals in Eugene, Ore. June 9-12.

Bison ranked No. 43 in the country
In the latest edition of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Assocation (USTFCCCA) rankings, North Dakota State is No. 43. The Bison are the highest-ranked Summit League squad. Oregon is No. 1 going into Preliminary Round competition.

NDSU wins third straight league title
The Bison won their third consecutive outdoor title at the 2010 Summit League Championships. Junior Whitney Carlson led the way by winning the 100 hurdles, the 400 hurdles and the long jump. Senior Heather Zander set a new league record in the heptathlon scoring 5,328 points. Sophomore Kristen Killoran claimed the triple jump while fellow sophomore Leslie Brost won the pole vault. Redshirt freshman Toni Tollefson took first in the high jump and freshman Ashley Tingelstad won the 400. Senior Christine Bruins won the 800 meters and the 4x400 relay also took first. Head coach Ryun Godfrey was named Coach of the Year for the third straight season.
