Zander in 11th After Day One of Heptathlon at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. ? North Dakota State senior Heather Zander sits in 11th place with 3,245 points in the heptathlon after the first day of action at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.  Junior Whitney Carlson is in 18th with 3,069 points.

Redshirt freshman Toni Tollefson competed in the high jump, but failed to clear the opening height of 5-7 ¾.

Zander posted personal bests in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 200 meters.  Her 100 hurdles time of 13.95 was seventh and good for third all-time at NDSU.  In the 200, she came in third in 24.33, which is fourth on the school's performance charts.  Zander was 20th in the high jump after clearing 5 feet 3 inches and 16th in the shot put with a throw of 35-1.

Carlson was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 13.92.  She also posted a top five finish in the 200 meters, coming in fourth in 24.46.  Carlson was 23rd in the high jump with a mark of 4-10 ¼ and 18th in the shot put with a throw of 33-5 ¾.

The heptathlon concludes Thursday with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.  Action begins at 3:45 p.m. Central.
