Zander Claims All-America Honors in Heptathlon at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - North Dakota State senior Heather Zander became the school's second Division I All-American with a ninth place finish in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, June 10.  Her score of 5,427 points is also a new school record and a personal best by 99 points.  Oregon's Brianne Theisen took first in the event with 6,094 points.

Zander started the day in 11th place after the first four events.  She opened today's action with a sixth place finish in the long jump after a leap of 18 feet 9 inches. 

In the javelin, she came in eighth with a throw of 119-8.  In the 800 meters, the final event of the day, she placed 10th in a time of 2:20.25.

Junior Whitney Carlson did not finish the heptathlon, but is scheduled to compete in the long jump on Saturday, June 12.
