Carlson Breaks School Record in Long Jump at U.S. Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa ? North Dakota State junior Whitney Carlson set a new school record in the long jump en route to a ninth place finish at the U.S. Track and Field Championships on Saturday, June 26.  Her leap of 21 feet 2 ½ inches broke her own NDSU record by one inch.

 

Senior Heather Zander finished 13th in the heptathlon with 5,357 points.  She posted her best finish of the day in the long jump, coming in ninth with a mark of 18-8 ½.  She was 10th in the 800 meters in 2:20.02 and 11th in the javelin with a throw of 108-10.

 

In the high jump, redshirt freshman Toni Tollefson did not clear the opening height of 5-8 ¾.

 

Former Bison Amanda Smock (formerly Thieschafer) placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 44-7 ½.  Laura Januszewski (formerly Hermanson) was fourth in the 800 meter semifinals in a time of 2:02.13.  She will run in the event final at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, June 27.

 

Sophomore Leslie Brost will also compete in the pole vault on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
