Thorne Claims Women's NDSU Open Title

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State senior Amy Jo Thorne won the five-kilometer NDSU Open Friday night in 18 minutes 39.05 seconds.  Thorne and the Bison women's cross country team claimed eight of the top ten spots en route to winning the meet with 15 points.  Concordia was second with 50 points.

 

Freshman Heidi Peterson started her collegiate career with a second place finish in 18:43.28.  Senior Christine Schmaltz was fourth in 19:24.67.  Freshman Maddie McClellan came in fifth in 19:26.49.  Sophomore Faith Kruchowski placed sixth in 19:27.73 and junior Jordan Krahn was seventh in 19:42.70.  Freshman Kelly Pechous finished eighth in 19:46.61 and senior Marissa Dahlquist rounded out the top 10 with a time of 20:08.22.

 

Sophomore Hannah McAllister posted a time of 20:28.38 to finish 12th, while redshirt freshman Kathryn Houle was 16th in 20:51.51.  Freshman Nikki Huelsman came in 18th in 20:58.05.

 

Freshman Emily Helwig ran a time of 21:56.16 to finish 25th and sophomore Lexi Jo Heitkamp was 36th in 22:50.81.

 

The Bison will next compete at the Oz Memorial Run in Falcon Heights, Minn. on Friday, Sept. 11.
