Bison Women Third at Summit League Championships, Peterson Named Newcomer of the Championships

CARMEL, Ind. ? Freshman Heidi Peterson placed ninth to lead the North Dakota State women's cross country team to a third place finish at the six-kilometer Summit League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30.  For her efforts, Peterson was named the Newcomer of the Championships and she also snagged second team all-league honors.

 

Oakland claimed the team title with 45 points and Southern Utah took second in a close contest with 50 points.  NDSU notched 80 points in its third place finish. 

 

Southern Utah's Jamie Smith won the individual title in a time of 21:17.0.  Peterson finished ninth in a time of 21:40.6.  Senior Amy Jo Thorne came in 15th in 22:10.6.  Sophomore Faith Kruchowski placed 17th in 22:19.5. 

 

Freshman Maddie McClellan and junior Jordan Krahn finished 19th and 20th, respectively.  McClellan posted a time of 22:22.1 and Krahn crossed the finish line in 22:23.0.  Senior Brittany Schanandore placed 29th in a time of 22:45.0.  Fellow senior Christine Schmaltz came in 35th in 23:08.0.  Sophomore Hannah McAllister was 39th in 23:20.3.

 

NDSU will next compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 13.
