Bison Men Set to Compete at NCAA Midwest Regional

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State men's cross country team will travel to Peoria, Ill. for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 13.  The 10-kilometer race will begin at 12:15 p.m. at Newman Golf Course.  The regional is hosted by Bradley University.

The Bison are coming off a third place finish at the Summit League Championships.  Juniors Tyler Leverington and Travis Fitzke both earned second team all-league honors to lead the squad.

Defending national champion and No. 1 Oklahoma State is the team to beat in the Midwest after claiming its third straight Big 12 title.  No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 24 Minnesota and No. 27 Tulsa are also teams to contend with.

The Midwest Region encompasses nine states: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois.  The region includes schools from 10 conferences, including the Atlantic10, Big 12, BIG EAST, Big Ten, Conference-USA, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, and Summit League, as well as one D-I Independent.

 

Leverington was the top finisher for the Bison at the 2009 NCAA Midwest Regional after coming in 78th.   NDSU finished 18th as a team.
