Fitzke, Smart Crack All-Time Top Ten at Bison Classic

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track and field team won five events at the Bison Classic on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Bison Sports Arena.

 

In the 1,000 meters, junior Travis Fitzke claimed the title in a personal best time of 2:28.78.  His time ranks ninth on the NDSU all-time performance charts.  Alec Espeland finished second in 2:32.03.

 

Freshman Donté Smart won the 60 meters in 6.94, which ranks 10th all-time at NDSU.  Smart was also the top Bison finisher in the 200 meters, placing fourth in 22.84.  Junior Kevin Jackson was third in the 60 meters in 7.03.

 

Matt Tetzlaff won his second straight meet title in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a season-best time of 8.10.  He was only five-hundredths off his personal best.

  

Moses Heppner led a top three sweep for the Bison in the 800 meters.  Heppner crossed the finish line in 1:54.39.  Tyler Leverington was second in 1:56.66 and Andy Wendroth took third in 1:57.38.

 

The 4x400 relay team of Tetzlaff, Smart, Dwight Finnell and Jason Duchscherer placed first in 3:21.96.

 

The Bison are back in action at the Jack Johnson Classic Jan. 21-22 in Minneapolis, Minn.
