Carlson Sets Meet Record in Long Jump at Jack Johnson Classic

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ? Senior Whitney Carlson set a meet record in the long jump to lead the North Dakota State  women's track and field team at the Jack Johnson Classic on Saturday, Jan. 22.  Carlson's leap of 19 feet 6 ¾ inches broke the meet record set in 2010 by Minnesota's Todea-Kay Willis.

 

Carlson also won the 60 meter hurdles in a season-best time of 8.58 seconds.  Sophomore Toni Tollefson claimed the high jump title after clearing 5-8.

 

In the 600 meters, senior Christine Schmaltz posted a personal best time of 1:32.79 to finish fourth.  Her time is second fastest in NDSU history.  Brittany Gigstead also posted a top 10 mark in the 600 meters, coming in fifth in 1:34.41; a time that ranks fourth on the NDSU all-time performance charts.

 

Antoinette Goodman's third place time of 24.96 in the 200 meters is tied for fifth on the school's all-time list.  Goodman also took fifth in the 60 meters in 7.73.

 

NDSU competed against host Minnesota, South Florida, Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Manitoba and Minnesota State Moorhead at today's meet.

 

The Bison return to action next week at the Bill Bergan Invitational hosted by Iowa State.
