Brost Sets School, Arena Records in the Pole Vault at the Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. – Junior Leslie Brost set a new North Dakota State and Bison Sports Arena record of 13 feet 11 ¼ inches in the pole vault at the Bison Open on Saturday, Feb. 5.  Brost breaks the school record of 13-10 ½ she set in 2010 at the Last Chance Qualifier.  Her mark currently ranks ninth in the nation.

 

Brost was one of 11 event winners for the Bison.  Senior Whitney Carlson claimed the 60 meter hurdles and the long jump titles for the fourth consecutive meet.  She won the 60 hurdles in 8.66 and the long jump with a mark of 20-3 ½.

 

Redshirt freshman Antoinette Goodman won the 200 meters in a personal best time of 24.84 to take sole possession of fifth place on the school's all-time performance charts.

 

Competing in the triple jump for the first time this season, junior Kristen Killoran took first in the event with a mark of 39-2 ¼.  Sophomore Toni Tollefson claimed her third high jump title of the season after clearing 5-8.

 

Senior Christine (Bruins) Schmaltz finished first in the 400 meters in 57.72, the first time she ran the event this year.  Sophomore Ashley Tingelstad was just over one-tenth behind her in second in 57.87. Senior Amy Jo Thorne won the 800 meters in a season-best  time of 2:16.49 and sophomore Faith Kruchowski was second in 2:17.36.

 

Freshman Heidi Peterson dropped two seconds off her mile time to take first in 5:08.75 and lead a 1-2-3 Bison finish.  Senior Marissa Dahlquist was second in 5:12.03 and junior Jordan Krahn was third in 5:16.92.  Senior Jennifer Nagberi won the 60 meters in 7.76.

 

The Bison women also won the 4x400 relay title in 3:55.04.

 

The NDSU women will travel back to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic Feb. 11-12.  It will be the final meet for the Bison before hosting the Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 27-28.
