NDSU Men Prepare for Texas Relays, Duke Invitational

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State men's track and field team continues outdoor action with the Texas Relays and the Duke Invitational this weekend. The Texas Relays begin Wednesday, April 6 and continue through Saturday, April 9.  The Duke Invitational starts Friday, April 8 and concludes Saturday, April 9.  This will be the first outdoor action for the Bison since the Baldy Castillo Invitational in mid-March.

 

Texas Relays preview

NDSU will send two athletes to the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.  Senior Ted Rud and junior Weston Leutz will both compete in the decathlon.  Action begins Wednesday, April 6 with the first five events at 12 p.m.  The decathlon concludes Thursday at 11 a.m.

 

Duke Invitational preview

The rest of the squad will travel to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Invitational.  Sophomore Kevin Jackson returns to defend his meet title in the 200 meters.  Field action opens with the shot put at 11 a.m. Central on Friday, April 8.  Men's running events start at 12:10 p.m. with the 100 meters.  On Saturday, field events start at 10:30 a.m. and running events begin at 9 a.m.

 

Bison men compete at Vance Butler Invitational

The NDSU men's track and field team posted nine top eight finishes at the Vance Butler Invitational on Saturday, April 2.  The team traveled south after the NDSU Invitational was canceled due to snow accumulation.  Senior Sam Soholt led the way with a sixth place finish in the discus and an eighth place finish in the hammer throw.

 

Stroh leads team at Baldy Castillo

Senior Eric Stroh placed second in the 800 meters to lead the Bison men at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, the first outdoor meet of the year.  His time of 1:49.96 ranks fourth all-time at NDSU.  Stroh was one of four Bison to break into the school's all-time top 10.  Sophomore Moses Heppner ran a time of 1:50.65 in the 800 meters, which is seventh on the school's performance charts.  Fellow sophomore Matt Tetzlaff's time of 14.35 in the 110 meter hurdles is fifth in school history.  Senior Logan Hollenkamp's personal best mark of 184-10 in the hammer is third all-time.

 

NDSU tabbed to win league outdoor crown

The Bison were the unanimous choice to win their second straight Summit League outdoor track and field title in a vote of the league's head coaches.  NDSU led the voting with 36 points and all six possible first place votes.  South Dakota State was picked to finish second, while Southern Utah was chosen to take third.
