Hollenkamp, Morrow Claim Titles at SDSU Twilight Meet

BROOKINGS, S.D. ? North Dakota State sophomore Jesse Morrow won the pole vault and senior Logan Hollenkamp claimed the hammer throw at the South Dakota State Twilight meet on Monday, April 25.

 

Morrow took first in the pole vault after clearing 15 feet 11 inches.  He led a contingent of five Bison finishers in the top eight.  Sophomore Andy Lillejord was third with a mark of 15-11 and senior Cody Gronvold was fourth after clearing 15-5.  Junior Joe Bredahl took fifth with a mark of 14-11 and sophomore Nolan Berg was eighth with a mark of 14-5 ¼.

 

In the hammer, Hollenkamp's winning throw was 181 feet 2 inches.  Sophomore Casey Orgon was fourth with a toss of 177-2 and senior Sam Soholt took fifth with a mark of 175-3. Sophomore Blake Elsen was seventh with a throw of 155-8.

 

Orgon also took third in the shot put with a mark of 47-4 ½.  In the discus, Soholt was second with a throw of 155-4.  Hollenkamp was sixth with a mark of 144-11.

 

In the triple jump, junior Lee Kersting and sophomore Brad Monahan took fourth and fifth, respectively.  Kersting's fourth place mark was 45-7 ¼ and Monahan's leap was 45-2 ½.

 

The Bison also posted three top eight finishes in the 800 meters.  Junior Andy Wendroth led the way with a third place finish in a time of 1:55.56.  Fellow junior Kole Seiler was fifth in 1:56.38.  Sophomore Dan Merritt finished sixth in 1:56.62.

 

Freshman Nate Mattson was sixth in the 100 meters in 11.08 and fifth in the 400 meters in 52.78.  In the 110 meter hurdles, Gronvold took fifth in 15.57.  Freshman Dwight Finnell competed in the 400 meter hurdles for the first time this season and took fourth in 57.98.

 

NDSU will next compete in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa April 28-30.
