Rud Sixth in Decathlon at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa ?   North Dakota State senior Ted Rud took sixth in the decathlon at the Drake Relays with a season-best score of 7,068 points on Thursday, April 28. Sophomores Alec Espeland and Moses Heppner also ran the unseeded 800 meters this afternoon.

 

Rud opened with an 11th place finish in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.51 seconds.  He then posted his best finish of the day in the long jump, taking first with a mark of 23 feet 1 ¾ inches.  Rud was sixth in the shot put with a mark of 40-2 and tied for eighth in the high jump after clearing 6-3 ½.  He rounded out the first day with a 10th place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 51.94. 

 

On Thursday, he took 11th in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.67 to open the day's action.   He then posted a second place finish in the discus with a throw of 136-3.  Rud tied for third in the pole vault after clearing 14-11 and then placed 12th in the javelin with a mark of 135-8.  He rounded out competition with a fourth place finish in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:35.27.

 

In the 800 meters, Espeland took second in a time of 1:53.79.  Heppner was 13th after clocking in at 1:56.81.

 

On Friday, Jesse Morrow and Joe Bredahl will compete in the pole vault.  The NDSU men will also participate in the 4x100, 4x400, 4x200 and 4x800 relays.
