Bison Men Host UND in Dual Meet Friday

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State men's track and field team will host North Dakota in a dual meet on Friday, May 6 at the Ellig Sports Complex.  Field events begin at 5 p.m. with the hammer throw, javelin and pole vault.  Running events start at 5:30 p.m. with the steeplechase.  The meet will culminate with an 8 p.m. 5,000 meter fun run that is open to the public.  Sign-up for the 5,000 meters begins at 7:35 p.m. This meet will serve as the final tune-up for the team before The Summit League Championships May 12-14.

 

Sprint medley sets new school record at Drake Relays

The sprint medley relay team of freshman Donte Smart, sophomore Kevin Jackson, junior Jason Duchscherer and senior Eric Stroh took third in a new school record time of 3 minutes 18.98 seconds to lead the Bison at the Drake Relays April 27-30.  They broke the 24-year-old school record of 3:24.38.  The 4x800 relay team of sophomore Moses Heppner, redshirt freshman Alec Espeland, junior Andy Wendroth and Stroh took eighth in 7 minutes 33.13 seconds.  Their time ranks eighth all-time at NDSU.  The Bison also posted 15 top eight finishes at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.

 

NDSU leads five events in Summit League

NDSU tops the Summit League standings in four individual events as well as the 4x100 relay.  Sophomore Kevin Jackson is first in the 100 meters with a time of 10.62, while senior Eric Stroh holds the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.71.  Sophomore Matt Tetzlaff is first in the 110 hurdles in 14.26 and senior Ted Rud leads the heptathlon with 7,068 points.

 

Rud nationally ranked

Senior Ted Rud is ranked No. 40 in the decathlon in the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).  He tallied his season-best score of 7,068 points in a sixth place finish at the Drake Relays.

 

Morrow, Hollenkamp lead team at SDSU Twilight

Sophomore Jesse Morrow won the pole vault and senior Logan Hollenkamp took first in the hammer throw to lead the NDSU men at the South Dakota State Twilight meet on Monday, April 25.  Morrow's winning mark was 15 feet 11 inches, while Hollenkamp's first place throw was 181 feet 2 inches. Overall, the Bison posted 21 top eight finishes.

 

Stroh wins 800 at Beach Invite

Eric Stroh claimed the 800 meters title in a personal best time of 1:49.71 at the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif. April 17.  His time is ranked fourth in NDSU history.  Matt Tetzlaff also ran a personal best time of 14.26 in the 110 hurdles, which is tied for fourth all-time.  Joe Bredahl continued to improve his pole vault as well, clearing 16-2, good for eight all-time.

 

Cracking the top 10 in Walnut

At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. April 15, five members of the men's team broke into the school's all-time top 10.  Joe Bredahl is now ninth in the pole vault after clearing 16-0 3/4, while Jeramy Geditz is sixth all-time in the high jump after a leap of 6-10 3/4.  In the 400 hurdles, Matt Tetzlaff's time of 53.07 is ninth on the school's performance charts.  Moses Heppner and Alec Espeland both cracked the top 10 in the 800 meters.  Heppner is seventh with a time of 1:50.53 and Espeland is eight with a time of 1:50.59.
