Bison Men Aim for Second Straight Title at Summit League Championships

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State men's track and field team will aim for its second straight Summit League outdoor championship Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14 in Sioux Falls, S.D.  The meet will be held at the Sanford Health Sports Complex's Lillibridge Track.    The Bison return 800-meter champion Eric Stroh and decathlon champ Weston Leutz.  Live statistics will be available on GoJacks.com.  The Championships will be televised by Midco Sports Network on a tape delay basis on May 20 at 7 p.m.

Tickets

All-session tickets are $10, while single-day passes are $5. Tickets are available at the Sioux Falls Sports Authority offices (200 N. Phillips Ave, Suite 304) or at any Sioux Falls, S.D., Hy-Vee store. Tickets will also be available at the Sanford Health Sports Complex Southwest gate on event day.

 

2010 review

NDSU captured three titles en route to the 2010 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championship.  Eric Stroh won the 800 meters, while Weston Leutz captured the decathlon title.  The Bison also won the 4x100 relay.  Head coach Don Larson earned Coach of the Year honors .  NDSU scored 186 points to win its second title in three years after also winning the crown in 2008.

 

Stroh wins 1,500 at Howard Wood Dakota Relays

Senior Eric Stroh captured the 1,500 meter title at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in a personal best time of 3:49.53 on May 7.  The time ranks fifth all-time at NDSU.  Stroh also placed second in the 800 meters in a personal best time of 1:49.65, which is fourth in school history.  He leads the league in the 800 meters and is second in the 1,500 meters.

 

NDSU leads five events in Summit League

NDSU tops the Summit League standings in four individual events as well as the 4x100 relay.  Sophomore Kevin Jackson is first in the 100 meters with a time of 10.62, while senior Eric Stroh holds the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.65.  Sophomore Matt Tetzlaff is first in the 110 hurdles in 14.22 and senior Ted Rud leads the heptathlon with 7,068 points.

 

Rud ranked in decathlon

Senior Ted Rud is ranked No. 43 in the nation in the decathlon in the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).  He tallied his season-best score of 7,068 points at the Mt. SAC Decathlon. The top 24 athletes in the country in the event will earn a spot to compete in the NCAA Championships.

 

Bison men defeat UND in dual meet

The NDSU men won 13 event titles en route to a 107-59 dual win over North Dakota on Friday, May 6 at the Ellig Sports Complex.  Seven members of the team also moved into the all-time top 10.  The meet served as the team's final tune-up before the Summit League Championships.

 

Sprint medley sets new school record at Drake Relays

The sprint medley relay team of freshman Donte Smart, sophomore Kevin Jackson, junior Jason Duchscherer and senior Eric Stroh took third in a new school record time of 3 minutes 18.98 seconds to lead the Bison at the Drake Relays April 27-30.  They broke the 24-year-old school record of 3:24.38.  The 4x800 relay team of sophomore Moses Heppner, redshirt freshman Alec Espeland, junior Andy Wendroth and Stroh took eighth in 7 minutes 33.13 seconds.  Their time ranks eighth all-time at NDSU.  The Bison also posted 15 top eight finishes at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.
