NDSU Men Set to Compete at NCAA West Preliminary Round

FARGO, N.D. - Five members of the North Dakota State men's track and field team will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round May 26-28 in Eugene, Ore.  The meet will be held at Historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.  In both the East and West regions, the top 48 athletes in each event made the preliminary round and the top 12 will advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa June 8-11.

 

NDSU men ready for competition

Senior Logan Hollenkamp and sophomore Casey Orgon will both compete in the hammer throw on Friday.  This is Hollenkamp's second straight trip to the preliminary round after finishing 40th last year.  Orgon will be looking to improve on his school record mark in his first NCAA appearance.  Senior Jeramy Geditz will compete in the high jump in the first NCAA meet of his career.  Senior Eric Stroh will run the 800 meters and sophomore Matt Tetzlaff will compete in the 110 meter hurdles.  Both athletes will be making their first NCAA appearance.

Thursday, May 26

8:50 p.m. - 800 meters first round (Stroh)

Friday, May 27

5:30 p.m. - Hammer (Hollenkamp, Orgon)

5:45 p.m. - High Jump (Geditz)

5:25 p.m. - 110 hurdles first round (Tetzlaff)

7:05 p.m. - 800 meters quarterfinal (Stroh if qualifies)

Saturday, May 28

4:20 p.m. - 110 hurdles quarterfinal (Tetzlaff if qualifies)

 

Smart, Larson earn Summit League awards

Freshman Donte Smart was named Newcomer of the Championship in a vote of the league's coaches at the Summit League Outdoor Championships in Sioux Falls.  Smart finished third in the 100 meters and fifth in the 200 meters and also ran the opening leg of both winning relays.  He was also the Newcomer of the Championship at the indoor meet.  Head coach Don Larson was voted Coach of the Year for the third time in four years.

 

Bison win second straight Summit title

NDSU won its second consecutive Summit League outdoor championship and third in four years May 14 in Sioux Falls, S.D.  The Bison scored 227.5 points to outpace second place South Dakota State with 170.5 points.  NDSU won five individual titles as well as both the 4x100 and the 4x400 relays.  Eric Stroh won his second straight outdoor 800 meters title in 1:52.52, while Matt Tetzlaff took first in the 110 meter hurdles in 14.09.  Sam Soholt claimed the discus title with a personal best mark of 166-11 and Casey Orgon won the hammer throw with a school record toss of 193-6.  Ted Rud placed first in the decathlon with 6,479 points.
