NDSU Tallies 83 Summit League Winter/Spring All-Academic Selections

ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State had 83 student-athletes named to The Summit League Winter/Spring Academic All-League team announced by the league office Wednesday, June 15. The Bison had 46 student-athletes named Distinguished Scholars.

With the spring semester of the 2010-11 academic year in the books, The Summit League had a total of 1,000 student-athletes from baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track & field have been honored for their academic excellence. Of the 1,000 selections, 425 were recognized as Distinguished Scholars and 183 earned "straight-A's."

South Dakota State led the way with a league-best 148 selections to the Academic All-Summit League squad, edging out Oakland which had 139 recipients. Southern Utah came in third with 113 honorees, narrowly ahead of Western Illinois' 108 student-athletes. UMKC landed 88 members to the honor roll followed by North Dakota State (83 recipients) and Oral Roberts (70 recipients). IPFW (67 honorees), IUPUI (64 honorees) and Centenary (63 honorees) rounded out the list. South Dakota had 34 student-athletes and Eastern Illinois landed 23 recipients as associate swimming & diving members.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-Summit League Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 or better grade-point average (GPA) in the semester in which they compete and must use a year of eligibility. In order to be named a Distinguished Scholar, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.60 GPA.
